Rebecca N. McDonald

LVT, VTS
IM-Neurology

A proud Statesboro native, Rebecca began her journey in veterinary medicine in 2011 as a kennel assistant. From the very beginning, her strong work ethic and passion for animal care were evident. She went on to earn her Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from Ogeechee Technical College and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2016.

Rebecca spent her early years in general practice before discovering her calling in Veterinary Neurology. In 2019 she began a new chapter of specializing in neurologic patient care. After a relocation to Virginia due to her spouse’s military service, Rebecca continued her advanced neurology experience.

Upon returning to Coastal Georgia in 2023, Rebecca joined our team and has played a vital role in our neurology department. During this time, she completed extensive training and education to pursue her Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Neurology. As of summer 2025, she is officially recognized as a member of the Academy of Internal Medicine Veterinary Technicians (AIMVT)—a prestigious achievement in the field.

Rebecca has a special clinical interest in disorders related to the brain, along with advanced imaging (mainly MRI) and is committed to continued professional growth and delivering exceptional patient care.

Outside of work, Rebecca loves spending quality time outdoors with her husband, their daughter, and their two Labrador Retrievers, Emery and Wesson. Whether she’s hiking, on the water, or relaxing with her family, she brings the same warmth and dedication to her personal life that she does to her profession.

She completed a 1-year rotating internship in small animal medicine at North Carolina State University in 1993 and 1 year of anatomical pathology at University of Arizona in 1994. She completed a residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery in 1997 and was board-certified by the College of Veterinary Internal Medicine the same year. She is a life-long, avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys which makes the months between January through September very boring for her. Her family consists of her mom (also known as Mumby) and her very orange Maine Coon cat, Dak Prescott (QB2).
