At New River Veterinary Specialists, advanced imaging is supported by the expertise of a board-certified veterinary radiologist a veterinarian who has completed extensive advanced training in diagnostic imaging and has met the rigorous requirements of the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR).

Our radiologist specializes in interpreting diagnostic images obtained through digital radiography, CT, MRI, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and other advanced imaging techniques. While these technologies create highly detailed images of your pet’s body, determining what those images mean requires specialized training, experience, and an understanding of how imaging findings relate to your pet’s clinical signs and overall condition.
A board-certified radiologist carefully evaluates imaging studies for subtle abnormalities that may be difficult to recognize, helps distinguish normal variations from disease, and works closely with our emergency and specialty teams to develop an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
For complex cases, the radiologist can also recommend the most appropriate imaging modality and protocol for the specific clinical question. For example, CT may provide the best evaluation of the lungs, nasal passages, bones, or certain types of trauma, while MRI may be preferred for detailed evaluation of the brain, spinal cord, and other soft tissues. Ultrasound and echocardiography provide real-time evaluation of organs, blood flow, and cardiac function.
Most importantly, our radiologist works as part of your pet’s medical team. Imaging findings are interpreted alongside your pet’s history, physical examination, laboratory results, and other diagnostic information. This collaborative approach allows our specialists to reach a more complete and accurate diagnosis and helps guide timely treatment.

Adam Hunt

Internal Medicine

Dr. Adam Hunt is an internal medicine specialist at New River Veterinary Specialists. He is a 2018 graduate of Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hunt completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at Kansas State University and his small animal internal medicine residency at University of Tennessee. He received the House Officer of the Year award at Kansas State University due to his passion for teaching.

Dr. Hunt’s special areas of interest are gastroenterology, endocrinology, autoimmune diseases and infectious diseases. His area of research is in feline gastrointestinal disease and its relation to anemia and the diagnosis of commonly acquired adrenal diseases. Dr. Hunt enjoys performing all procedures in the specialty of internal medicine but particularly enjoys upper and lower GI endoscopy. He enjoys the long-term management of multifaceted cases and building relationships and bettering the health of his patients. Dr. Hunt views each case as an opportunity to educate and involve his clients in the decision making process with their beloved companions.

In his free time, Dr. Hunt enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family. He enjoys hiking, swimming, spending time at the beach and playing soccer. He shares a home with his wife, two dogs, and a cat.

Andy Leffler

Dr. Andy Leffler is a radiologist at New River Veterinary Specialists. He is a 2017 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After working for multiple years in a hybrid general practice, Dr. Leffler completed his Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology residency at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and is now a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology. He has worked as Diagnostic Imaging faculty at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, as a consultant with a specialty referral and emergency practice in central Ohio, and as a teleradiologist.

Dr. Leffler’s specialties include digital radiography, ultrasonography,
fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He enjoys all areas of diagnostic imaging, particularly ultrasonography and performing ultrasound-guided sampling of tissues and lesions. He values being an integral part of the diagnostic workup for patients, serving clients with his skillset, and working alongside of, collaborating with, and learning from other specialists. He also enjoys training residents, interns, and students, teaching ultrasound courses to practitioners across the country, and serving local referral partners.

In his free time, Dr. Leffler enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, bass and trout fishing, serving in his church, bird-watching, and railfanning.
